Seller Tips n Tricks

1.     When your kids have outgrown something wash it and organize it (size and gender), label your boxes or containers. Same goes for toys or books.
2.     When you buy new clothes keep the hangers. They will come in handy later for hanging sets, dresses, dress shirts, dress pants, jackets etc.
3.     Sell all matching or coordinating outfits/clothes separately – better chance of one or more being sold individually.
4.     Take the time to clean toys and equipment – you can price the item a little higher if its clean and well presented.
5.     Pricing – research what the item would be brand new, then halve it and then lower the price further depending on condition, age etc.  Ask yourself would you buy it for that price?
6.     Start early. Tag items in batches, spread it out so you are not tagging and sorting at midnight on the Thursday before dropping off.
7.     Print tags by box for easier tagging and sorting.
8.     Put the tagging gun needle through seems as much as possible to prevent holes.
9.     Pay the extra to have Staples cut the tags for you.
10.  Use zip lock bags for toys with accessories, loose parts, puzzles, socks and tights. Tape the tag to the outside of the bag and also tape along the seal.
11.  ZIP TIES, ZIP TIES, ZIP TIES. Use them for shoes and large toys/equipment.

12. Use rubber bands on hangers to tie together when grouping by size and gender.

“For my first sale I sold baby items, even though I got a lot out of my house I made about $400. However, as my kids have grown and I am selling more gear, [books], toys and larger sized clothes I can make about $800-$1,000.”

– Melody – (Mom to 4-year-old twin girls)
